A Winter's Day :: Three week old jeans

 

Our five year old received these for Christmas from 'Santa'. Three weeks later...they looked like this. They've been sitting next to the computer because I've been thinking about writing to the company. But I've been putting it off. I'd much rather write a raving letter about how much I love a product than one to let them know I'm disappointed. I write to companies all the time to praise their product if it's something I love. That part is easy, and fun...but, this, I don't like to do... So I put it off.

Today, I'm off to do a little grocery shopping sans the boys and I'm picking up my free Quiznos sub! (Offer no longer available.)

A Winter's Day :: Believe me now?

 

I mention on here that I have to organize quite often... It's because pockets of my house look like this! It's so easy for things to get sailing around here without any 'real' storage solutions in sight. I don't have closets and I don't have enough vintage cupboards yet.

This is my loft. My crafting area. My temporary 'studio'. I haven't done anything in awhile because it's needed to be cleaned! This is what I'm working on this week. I'm getting ready to start creating again but it has to get organized in order for me to do so!

And...ahem...those who know me to be a bit of a 'neat freak' don't always believe me when I say my house is a mess... ;) Believe me now?

A Winter's Day :: Not a Sunday

 

If it's not a Sunday, he's in his caulk-, paint-stained work clothes. And it used to be not very often he was sitting down reading, not on a Sunday.

We love having him around more, but are hopeful the economy will take a turn eventually... It always does. Right?

I'm grateful even for this 'slump' because we get to spend so much more time together as a family. I love having him home during the day and so do the kids. It's a nice change from the times when we'd barely see him during the work week! (Which has been most of our marriage!) But...as I said, we're 'hopeful'. We're just appreciating the things we can right now!

A Winter's Day :: String Along

 

You caught me. I didn't take any pictures today. But I did go grocery shopping and I stopped at the thrift. I left with under five dollars spent. A first. Nothing spectacular to share. You can tell the state of the economy by the [lack of] goods at the thrift. I did pick up a handful of old patterns to use for wrapping packages and some vintage fabric scraps, a milk glass vase, and a t-shirt for Nikayda, and an old game for the kids. That's about it!

A Winter's Day :: Sharing is patience

 

{Mark's sweatshirt has a dusting from hauling firewood. And, yes, Carter is still in his pj's at lunchtime! I fully admit, that's a pretty common thing around here...}

This is also a common sight around our table. Mark generally has one or three of the kids digging into his dish while he eats. He has far more patience than I! :) He does the same when he's on the computer. They're always climbing on his lap.

Occasionally, if he wants them down, he looks at me and asks why they never do that to me....!

I made PW's Penne a la Betsy (not the first time!) the other night. (What's being eaten in the picture.) This time, I added much more garlic (about 3 or 4 cloves) - we love garlic! and steamed, chopped asparagus. It was so good! This is definitely one of our family's top five favorite recipes. We love anything with shrimp or scallops.

This doesn't have scallops.

Although...now that I mention it... Hmmm... I might have to try that sometime!

A Winter's Day :: The 'Big Guy'

 

Day three and we're doing great! It's just the...ahem..more concrete evacuations that we're struggling with but at least the water is running just fine! If...you know what I mean.

We're thrilled!

A Winter's Day :: Chicken Wings

 

I thrifted this handmade tea cozy about a week ago or so. The vintage fabric spoke to me. I may have chickens but I'm not generally drawn to very many kitschy chicken things but there is just something about this print. I had to have it. I told myself I was buying it to resell. I just don't know if I'll be able to or not...! There is just something fun and playful about it and I like that!

Lest I sound like I actually know what I'm talking about, I don't know for certain that it's a tea cozy but it sure looks a lot like one. I like such random things and so many random styles and I love mixing and matching everything! It's what makes our house our 'home'.

 

Perhaps I should re-title my photo-a-day Photo's'-A Day...

A Winter's Day :: The Moment

Where one is, there the other is; picks in hand they strum along. Strings are optional. He doesn't need them to play like daddy. In his mind, his music is exactly the same, with or without them. He sings along as his daddy plays and for a moment the rest of the world fades away.

A Winter's Day :: The Question

 

We all have questions. Some will be answered. Some may never be answered. But one thing that is certain about questions is they never stop. They are a constant in our lives.

Not only are they always there but they make life more interesting, whether we like the questions or not.

My question is simply, why? What's yours?
